Class Announcements
End of the year
I hope all my students had as great a year as I did! I will miss all of my first graders as they move into second grade! Remember to keep reading this summer and visit next year :)

NOVA fieldtrip
First grade had a GREAT time on our field trip to NOVA!! We went to the art studio and watched an artist paint. We went to the computer lab and saw all the new computers! We even had a chance to play some neat games on a smartboard in the WAC building. We thought the science labs were so cool with the animals and skulls! We are so excited to go to college!!

Sight Words
Your child will be coming home with another copy of first grade sight words and activities to do with them. Sight words are words that you may not be able to sound out. Please pick three words each week to focus on and do an activity each day along with homework. This will help your child become a stronger reader as many of the words are in books we read often.
Reading
First grade is a year of huge growth in the area of reading. In order for your child to be successful, it is important that you read each night with your child for about 15-20 minutes. Please record the books you read on your child's reading log. At the end of the month, hand the reading log in for a Free pizza at Pizza Hut. If your child hands their log in 6 out of 8 months, they will be invited to our Reading Celebration in May!
Homework
Homework is handed out every Monday and is due on Friday. We give a spelling test every Friday on words we focus on in the homework.
